Entertainment at Disneyland

There is always something to see or do at Disneyland, but Disneyland adds to this with nightly entertainment during the peak season, and weekend entertainment during the off-season. There is also special entertainment during special occasions, such as the Fourth of July and Christmas.

Fantasmic is held twice each night during the peak season, and on weekends during the off-season. The show takes place on Tom Sawyer’s Island, and features many characters, music, and fireworks. For the best seating possible, purchase tickets for Fantasmic in advance, but note that free seating is also available, and is included in your Disneyland park admission price.

Camping - A Great Family Vacation

Getting back to Nature, is not something that went out with the 60s and hippies. More and more families are choosing to spend their vacations where they can enjoy the great outdoors how and when they want, by going camping.

Whether you are traveling with a tent, a tent/trailer or an RV, camping brings the family together for quality time that doesn’t have to be shared with the larger community of a resort or hotel. Depending on the sites you choose, you can socialize as much or as little as you like.

Choosing A Campground

It can be difficult to know exactly what you are getting when you reserve a campground space over the phone or Internet. That’s why it’s important to ask questions of any agent or friend who has been there, or to email the reservation service with questions before going ahead with the booking.

In the high tourist season, space can really be at a premium and tents or RVs can be crowded together more than you would like. Placement of your camping space can also be important, especially with young children not used to sleeping in a “strange” bed, and who may be more sensitive to things like the traffic noise if you are located next to a driveway or entrance, especially at night.

How to Make Smores on a Campfire

More Vacation Safety Tips

Family vacations are a fun and wonderful experience. However, it’s normal to be concerned about safety issues especially when traveling with children. Here’s some more vacation tips for you and your family:

Airport Safety – Always keep an eye on your luggage and never leave it unattended. To avoid someone else picking up your carry-on bag, try not to place it on the conveyor belt until you’ve been security checked yourself and right about to walk through the metal detector. Once you put it on the conveyor belt keep a close eye on it.

Hotel Safety – Keep valuables in a safe and always know where your closest safety exits are in case of an emergency.

Vacation Manners

Vacations are a time for the entire family to cut loose and have some fun, but it’s not the time to forget common courtesy, manners and consideration for others.

In fact, staying in hotels and eating out, is an excellent opportunity to introduce younger children to the importance of courtesy towards others who serve you. Please and thank you is never out of place, and can mean a great deal to someone who is being harassed in their work by rude guests.

Staying in a resort where there are games rooms, pools and other entertainments, doesn’t mean leaving fair play at home. Children will have to share, and learn patience, particularly if you’re visiting a major attraction like Disney World in the busy season. This can mean line-ups for the favorite rides, and sometimes having to share a ride with someone else.

Doing the Things You Want on a Family Vacation

Believe it or not, there are pros and cons to the planning of your family vacation, and one of the areas where most arguments and disappointments can occur, is with getting to see specific attractions, or taking part in particular activities.

Many families prefer an “open-ended” approach to the vacation, with the option to do what they want, when the mood strikes everyone. This is great, in that it allows you a great deal of freedom, but when you are going somewhere that offers things of specific interest that are a must-see or do for anyone in the party, you’re well-advised to make arrangements ahead of time, and to be aware any impediments to spur of the moment visits.

Outdoor performances or events can be cancelled due to weather. If there won’t be another opportunity to take in what you’ve missed, have the family make a second choice before you go, and be sure that children understand this is something that can happen, but you’ll do your best to go if possible.
